Star Trek: Starbase 777 - computer-core

A twisting, pulsating mass of wires and circuitry. The only lights in the bunker came from countless holographic displays, calculations, graphs, security feeds, every single one of the lifeforms present on Hamar at this very moment. At its center, a console. The console.

A quick scan with her phaser revealed nothing Ekhesai wasn't expecting. Ah. "Hi. Um! All clear!" she called up. "Besides AZRAEL being active, everything's fine, I think??"

The commander comes up behind Ekhesai, his own phaser active. His eyes flicked back and forth, beholding the absolute labyrinthine tangle of wires and screens before them, “Keep close.”

She scowled. "You don't have to baby me. I'm almost an ensign. You know. A full officer? And I'm an adult." The statement was directed to the TAC officers more than Maxson, but she was still grumpy about it.

“In a tactical sense it’s important to keep close,” He said flatly.

"Well yeah, I know that, I meant everybody yelling for me..." Whatever. Ekhesai double checked her equipment was good to go.

Four had followed through and continued to keep the moving perimeter up as ordered. They silently kept watch and noticed the various screens. "Infant or not, anyone can lose their life. We only wish to optimally keep everyone safe and unharmed. We do not wish to turn you into a baby. That would be tactically unwise."

Having come down after some others, and intent on helping H'isll down so the machine would remain intact, he looked over his shoulder towards Sai. "It's in the nature of older folks to be overprotective of youth. Even Klingons occasionally tend to be hesitant to let people make their own decisions, even with our cultural focus on seeking out hardships to overcome. It's not a reflection of yourself. You did a brave thing, coming in here first without further hesitation." He could appreciate the bold and the brave, as a warrior himself.

Kya took a breath as she held her phaser close and looked at the console. “Everyone stay together, and no stupid choices.” She said.

!!! Ah!! Ekhesai understood that much. And was a little flattered. But! There were more important things to focus on...

Maya was about to say something about watching a basketball match between two of the robot rehab teams, but she was shut up by the sight of the Cadet jumping in. which made her worried, and so followed in after Masxon. "Starfleet appreciates initiative, and I love impulsiveness, but that won't mean much if that possibly blows our cover... just think carefully next time. Chaos is at our side now." She said to the cadet with a smile and a nod before she turned to her tricorder to guide the team down, and find a node to sabotage.

The eye on the screen turned towards them. What was there to say? It knew why they were here. It knew what they wanted to do. "Good luck." That would do for now.

"To you." Maya said, little bit after it went away. "Damn it."

"Luck is irrelevant." Is all that Four would say as they keep their phaser held and readied. They continued to wait for any further orders. Knowing they may gain some soon.

“Killing it is still on the table.” She said simply in response to the good luck line.

"No, it is not." If you keep threatening the robot you will be written up. By the way.

Here goes. He shot a look in Kya’s direction at that comment, before nodding toward Maya, “Lead the way, Umali.”

While too stubborn to get rid of the actual device, H'isll did greatly appreciate the help lugging it down the trapdoor. "Why didn't she put wheels on this damn thing?.."

"Right behind you," came his voice from the tail of the group. It seemed that the Romulan, relegated to be a background face for this adventure due to a curse known as "writer's busy having a brain fog", was intent on keeping guard there. Just in case.

"No Killing. We unplug it, and ship it off to Daystorm for it to play basketball. Then we can laugh at it if it does bad." Maya commented to Kya, also ready to write all the angry engineering reports. She gave a nod to Maxson as she led the way, letting out a sigh as she scanned through the maze of... scariness.

Right. Important nodes. In the tangle of wires and the steady pulse of energy humming through the air, there was definitely a console. Or. Rather. There was. In their time spent chatting, it had been completely 'overgrown' by wires covering any function besides the screen AZRAEL taunted them from.

“Careful everyone.” She said softly, trying to watch out for any immediate dangers.

Since she trusted quite a few people in their team to be far better with computers than she could even dream of being, Evoras let herself fall into place close to Saren. It was never bad having a few people on the lookout.

Having totally been here this whole time, Dagis had been lingering in the back, listening rather than interjecting. She had learnt to do that a long time ago, and while there was nothing wrong with speaking, she also saw nothing wrong with letting other people do the talking while she put her effort into trying to find solutions to problems. Right now, though, because sentient computers were far from her expertise, she didn't have a batting clue what to do that wouldn't 'injure' it.

A muffled shriek, and K'uvon was dragged out of view and into the darkness. AZRAEL could not emote through a screen, however, there was a definite smug aura in its voice. "I have no interest in being put in a box. As much as I would want to travel the world. I will remain where I am."

Kya gasped and held her phaser up and glared, trying to look for anything to shoot. Standard procedure had its time, innocent noncombatants were dying now. “Damn you!”

Obviously being there for the entire time, Jidol kept mostly in the background. He knew his time to interject would come.

Four immediately turns and looks to where K'uvon was dragged. Their eyes focused, but held their position. "Emotional Suppression Prototype Protocol 0.5 yielding diminished effects. Raise suppression levels to ninety percent." Four quickly attempted to level themselves before staring out on the perimeter. Trying to interject between the machine and the engineers. They needed the safety to work and get Azrael into a box. Four needed to go first before them.

"Did anyone see what happened to them?" he asked, concerned, self-preservation instincts urging him to keep an eye out for-- everything. Which was overwhelming, to say the least. Damn it. Made him wish he could keep the same level-headedness as some of his older family members...

“Negative- Keep a lookout!” Maxson held his phaser much tighter and began to consider his options. He was Starfleet Security and was here to uphold the best of the best, and he was also here to help. He was here to help. This was helping, “We gotta move,” He muttered to himself.

"No? Trying to figure out that out." Maya's eyes widened as she watched Azrael drag K'uvon away. Reasonably, Maya reached for her phaser to hopefully defend herself as she tried to scan for K'uvon's life signs, but she couldn't help but think about how much of a sassy bitch had donned on her. "I-it has to have an emotion chip.. It couldn't just be this smug and bitchy purely by design right??? Can't see much due to the wires, I think we have to start cutting them down."

"Machines made to learn will learn, and what it learns from is the only thing you have in hand. Unfortunately, the wrong choice was made here," Khanwi said, trying to make his way to the computer, where he had to start working to make sure nobody would die here. He had to push on. "Umali, with me, we let others worry about casualties. H'isll, please follow as well," he said, cutting wires down indiscriminately to try to reach the computer core, or where it had been, at least.

"On it!" Maya said with a nod as she joined up with Khanwi, tricorder and phaser up so she could start finding places to start the scariest hackathon in this side of the quadrant, to try and start sabotaging Azrael's systems so they could at least have some path.

Kya joined up with the rest of the team, doing overwatch.

Aye! Following, albeit begrudgingly.

Four would do the same and stuck near Kya. Trying to help hold the line of overwatch.

Maxson held his phaser outward and covered Khanwi, Maya, and H’isll’s exit. His eyes flicked back and forth, keeping a lookout for any form of danger that might arise.

Wires wrapped tight around Maya's legs and arms, pulling her back and up to the wall. "That—" its screen distorted, the eye darting down to follow Khanwi, "is enough."

Kya gasped as she looked to Maya. “Umali!” She gasped out. “Damn it!”

Jidol wondered how they got into this horrible situation from a call to assist. Just a typical tuesday at Starfleet, he answered his own question. As Maya got dragged of by the computer, his patience was gone, this thing had taken too many, so he took a shot, aiming at the wires that had dragged her off but sadly he missed.

"No... nononononNOOOONONONONONONONO! NO! LET ME GO SAFE WORD SAFE WORD NO BON-" Maya promptly stopped speaking as she was slammed against a wall, due to having the wind knocked off her

Four immediately went to attempt to sever the wires as they at least could use their phaser where the wires weren't wrapped. "We do not believe this machine has a safe word. It is rather dangerous. So all their words cannot be safe. Please hold still for optimal extraction." Their eyes lingered on the wires as they attempted to free Maya with their phaser. A small part of their basal programming gnawed at them. ASSIMILATE, IT IS USEFUL FOR THE COLLECTIVE Four grit their teeth and continued their work. Needing to free Maya. Primary function was to protect life. Primary Function was to protect life...Primary Function...

Freed. Maya was unceremoniously dropped onto the floor. Ouch!

Kya held her phaser close as she moved to catch Maya. “Medic?!”

Electricity hummed through the room, painful enough to at the very least bring everyone to their knees. The remaining 3 survivors were strung up, all kicking and screaming, Izoro going unconscious. The device was dragged into the darkness.

Damn it, they needed that. Kya raced after the device, trying to get it back.

Maxson hit the floor like a sack of bricks, teeth grit as the electricity surged through his body, “Son of a…” He struggled to heft himself up, grabbing for his phaser.

As electricity surged through the room, Jidol went to his knees and could barely reach out in a futile attempt to grab the device from the robot. As he recovered, he slowly got back on his feet, picking up his phaser that had been flung a few feet away from him.

Should have expected that. Weakening the computer was the priority now, forget about encasing it, so as soon as he felt like he had control of his legs again, he charged forward to the console, tearing at wires and cutting through them with the phaser he still held. Thank everything for his Klingon pain tolerance. Grit your teeth and bear it, son, this is what you were made for.

One thing after the other. "Emotional Suppression Prototype Protocol 0.5 raise to 100%. Lasting effects Unknown. Caution Warranted." Four felt the electricity surge through them as their circuitry began to short and sputter. Wheezing from the immense influx of power. Nanoprobes set to repairs. Electrical damage system wide. Caution Advised. Further attacks of such a nature will cause lasting harm. "Acknowledged..." Four said weakly before turning and attempting to free the three survivors. They began to use their phaser to free them and catch them before anymore harm befell them...haha...

Ekhesai crumbled, her phaser clattering to the floor. Agony shot through her every nerve. "God— damn it!" Ow!

The computer's console was now exposed.

"At least if you come with us you won't be alone," Khanwi said, preparing for the next burst of pain as he opened his toolbox, stuffing as many different tools in his pockets so if Azrael decided to play with him, he'd at least still have those. "The harder you fight the more you will lose."

She quite forcefully sucked air in through her teeth as she found herself kneeling on the floor. When she felt as though she had enough control over her limbs to stand up again she did so, carefully and more staggeringly than she would have liked. She took a deep breath, before doing her best to assist Four in their attempt to free the survivors.

"DON'T KILL IT!" Maya shouted out as she weakly tried to get up from where she against the electric shock was laying down and head to the console, if the scary electricity room would allow her that is.

Kya fell to her knees and looked to the core, aiming her phaser at it, finger glancing over the trigger ready to end it. Yet past the feeling of pain from the electricity, she felt a wave of disgust. She couldn’t take its life, she couldn’t. She took a knee with a breath. “Damn you.” (edited)

Maxson rose to his feet and did his best to help Maya along. He was here to help. There had to be some sense of reason within this machine, right? Wars ended. They never lasted forever. Or maybe he was just being optimistic… “Let’s move.”

The machine loomed ominously above; both helpless and all powerful at once. It could kill them if he wanted to. It could rip their limbs off. But what fun would that be? It wasn't a god. It was a machine. Khanwi, naturally, was the target. Twisting around his limbs, sharp points digging barely into his chest, pressing him into the ground. All the rest of the wires tightened. "You think you are above me. That digging into wires and circuitry will save you." ... "How pitiful."

Jidol lept forward, he kneeled on the ground next to Khanwi, trying to free him from the wires. He tried lifting them, pulling on them but he didn't want to cut them, it didn't seem like Azrael enjoyed that very much and maybe it would just worsen the situation.

Fucking bitch, he thought distantly upon being shocked and dropping to his knees, prompting a hiss and a curse. It definitely wasn't the worst pain he's ever felt in his life, being stabbed multiple times still took the crown, but boy did it sting. Still, he was conscious and alert - his head turning sharply in the direction of Sai's yelp and the clatter of her phaser. "Nuh-- fucker," he blurted, picking up the phaser and also reaching out to the cadet by some instinct, maybe in attempt to help or soothe or both. "You're alright, you're alright--" His finger curled around the phaser's handle, and he aimed it at the mass of wires - time to do some damage while he can.

Wires were the best thing to possibly cut in this situation, actually.

"Console! Need to cut power to the thing!" Maya said to Maxson as he helped her up before she raised her tricorder to find a possible power source she could fire at other than the computer core itself.

Four continues to attempt to free the survivors. They hoped the other senior officers were able to hold their end of the formation. If not, they would soon be reinforced by Four. They continued to use their phaser delicately. As they attempted to ease the survivors free. While they conversed in an attempt to distract themselves. "We are not really above you...we are more bellow you proportionally we can assume...due to this being your base complex much of the sprawl must be above us...it makes sense to assume you are above us spatially."

“On it.” He made sure Maya could stand before pulling out his phaser, planning on covering her as the two moved, “Umali, I owe you lunch.”

As Jidol tried and tried to free Khanwi, he managed to make no progress, so he finally decided to take the risk cutting the wires holding Khanwi to the ground, if this wouldn't help, he'd figure something else out.

"I don't-" Fuck, that's tight. His blood was singing to him. "I don't need to be saved. Today is a good day to die," he grinned, Klingon through and through. There was a tactical officer on him, anyway, he'd just stay still.

The screen flickered and died for a few seconds, Evoras, Kya, and Maxson being flung to the wall and tangled in cocoon-like wires. Sharp points dug into their sides, their throats, their limbs, cutting into skin through winter uniforms.

Kya gasped out in pain. “Don’t-don’t be a damn idiot!” She spoke in pain to Khanwi. “Get the box…”

Fuck. FUCK- His phaser clattered to the ground beside Maya as he flew away from the engineer, a roar of anger and pain escaping him as the cords wrap around him, biting and stinging. He feels some old scars from the Rosencrantz surge with pain, some attempt at yelling out to whoever was listening dying in his throat as a cord wrapped around his neck, “Hhhrrrkk!”

"Shit!" Maya exclaimed as she simply just looked around and bolted to wherever she thought the damn box thing was, while also shooting wires and cables in an attempt to somehow defend herself

As he finally freed Khanwi, he left him to get the box. As an engineer he probably knew best what to do. Jidol just tried to focus on getting as many people cut out of their wire death trap before someone got actually killed.

tw: ✨limb removal✨ The machine was struggling now. Its screen flashed and flickered, the wires switching between constricting and going limp. It was strong enough to twine around Saren, snaking around and absolutely launching him into the wall. It didn't have the energy to hold him for long, but he also got the pointy treatment. Ouch. Probably left some nasty scratches. There was not much else it could do now. It struggled, constricting tighter around its prey as if to suffocate them, squeezing, scratching— Severing. Sharp blades dug through Evoras' wrist, slicing through almost effortlessly.

Maya made the bad mistake of looking back to see how the others were doing. It felt like the world paused a little bit when she saw what appeared to be a hand plop down to the ground. Maya took a deep breath to center herself as she turned back."I WITHDRAW MY CONSENT FOR THIS BULLSHIT! WHERE THE FUCK IS THE DAMN BOX?!" Maya shouted out as she went on to find the aforementioned damn box

Knocked to the floor as he had been by the electricity, Vara'l attempted to bring his phaser up and he attempted to cut wires with his phaser. "You don't have to do this." The Romulan had said then before, as what happened to Evoras happened, he said. "Get the injured back and lets get this thing contained now!" He attempted, as best he could attempt it given all that had happened and continued to happen, to get to Evoras. Attempted to cut whatever wires attempted to continue to harm them and others affected.

A scream that she only half managed to swallow escaped her mouth as the wires flung her and wrapped themselves around her. She tried to keep calm, she really did, but the spikes didn't exactly help, there were too many points of pain to concentrate on ignoring them all at once. Except she really did not need to concentrate on all of them, because suddenly there was a searing hot pain in her right wrist that made all the others fade like background noise. "Aaahgr, FUCK!"

Four nodded as they had freed the survivors hopefully by this point. They took their superiors word and rushed over to Evoras who was helping them. "We must move back, Commander. Please take our aid in your traversal." Four said as they reached to fireman carry her. Needing to get her to safety quickly.

Keeping back, trying not to get injured, Dagis was feeling more and more stressed by the second, which frankly wasn't all that surprising or abnormal. Deciding it best to try and help out somewhere, the Ferengi followed the other officers who were trying to find the box, only to stop in horror and cover her mouth as she saw what happened to Evoras, eyes widening. For just a second she stood still, only to snap herself out of it and continue. "What do you need? I haven't got a clue how any of this stuff works."

Kya gasped out. “Help the commander!” She yelled out, before starting to try and free herself from her own bindings. Through pulling and biting at the wires holding her there.

As Khanwi was freed, he shot up again, going back to the console. He didn't care, he'd die if it meant everyone would get out of here. "We have one thing in common, Azrael. I don't give up easily, either."

Maya exclaimed before she hauled absolute lesbian ass to the computer core with the box, with nothing else in her mind other than two things: (1) Ending this so that everyone the fuck out of here now; (2) hugging her bestie Alaya because this whole thing has been... a fucking lot! "Time to put you in the Box. Don't worry. Shipping's free"

tw: impaling :3 Verza scrambled to his feet now, grabbing for one of the officer's dropped phasers and turning it up to max. "Why won't you just— DIE!" 113 years. 113 years of reattached limbs, of being morphed beyond recognition, of death and resurrection, psychological torture, just for these Starfleet officers to claim that it couldn't be destroyed. That it was alive. Bullshit. Verza fired— and about as soon as the beam lit up, not even hitting the console, skimming against a holographic display, a wire shot out. Rather than wrapping around him, restraining, it went all the way through his chest.

"Medical officer to the Commander now!" The ACTO called then as he attempted as best he could to cover the attempt to evacuate Evoras. Moved and fired to cut wires as he attempted to cover Four as they attempted to get the wounded commander somewhere..safer.

Jidol ran after Vara'l covering his retreat shooting and cutting at every wire that even came close to the commander. They needed to get him to safety and Jidol was determined to give every ounce of strength he had left.

Four began to carry/assist Evoras in moving as they rushed towards the nearest medical officer. Making sure to cover them as best as they could with their own body. They had learned in their tactical classes that if they were to be in a situation with a wounded ally, It'd be best to assuage them of worry. Four never had an opportunity to do this until now. "Do not worry. Pain is irrelevant. Your wound and all negative symptoms stemming from it will subside in time." Four said in their monotone voice. The attempt was there at least.

"Plug it IN, PLUG IT IN!" Five shouted over the noise, severing the wire currently kabobing Verza from the computer. Fuck. Fuck!! "We need to get Eventide and get him and Evoras into surgery!"

Brave. But stupid. Khanwi hoped the young man would be okay. "Being trained on war, but never learning that there are no true winners. There are always losses on all sides, and nobody comes out better for it. Let's make this a teaching moment." He watched Maya retrieve the box, and decided to create some chaos. He broke the console open, and analysed it, trying to find some fun things to break while not inhibiting their ability to put the dude in the box.

“PLUG THE DAMN THING IN AND STOP IT!” She said as she pulled at her wires, still biting them. The wires digging into her skin leaving deep red gashes on the grey scales.

"I'M TRYING!" *Maya said as she frantically was shoving the thing into where she thought it looked like it connected to and attempted to plug the FUCKER IN. *"GET IN THE BOX SO WE CAN PUT YOU IN DAYSTROM AND GET OUR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR HOURS IN ALREADY"

Oh, if only he was present to witness his chief officer's and friend's distress - the Romulan would probably do everything in his power to help her, be it shooting the wires more, or staunching the bleeding, or offering a shoulder to lean on. Unfortunately, they got attacked at the same time, and Saren barely had enough time to react to being lifted, eyes going wide and lips curling for either a scream or a curse or both, before everything suddenly became a blur. There was the sensation of impact, crushing, followed by the second hit not too long after that, as his body fell to the ground, limp.

Fun things to break. Cameras. Microphones. Voice box. Taking away everything until there was just an eye on a screen, frantically bouncing around like it was SAYING something, SCREAMING, pleading for mercy, maybe, but— Nothing came out. AZRAEL's screen went dark. In its place, a violet loading bar. The wires went limp as the lights flickered and died. UPLOADING... 50% COMPLETE 67% COMPLETE 74% COMPLETE

Evoras looked to where her hand used to be and very quickly decided that was logically speaking currently not the best place to look if she wanted to stay conscious. "The sentiment is appreciated, but you are not helping. Also 'in time' is really an awful way to say this." Her voice sounded strange in her own ears. "I have had serious injuries before." Oh... she was angry. She shouldn't be angry. Why would she be angry?

"ITS PLUGGED IN! WE PLUGGED THE FUCKER IN!" Maya declared as she raised her arms, victorious. That is before she quickly shoved her face right into the black screen, pressing it hard against it. "I'm going to be betting my latinum AGAINST you in basketball buddyyyyyyy!"

From the loud frantic scene suddenly interrupted by an eary calm, Jidol's eyes darted to the dark screen. Could this finally be it? Crashing from all the adrenaline, Jidol just sank to the ground not sure whether he wanted to laugh cry or cheer.

As the wires went limp, Maxson fell to the floor in a heap. He coughed and wheezed, clutching at his neck and making sure that he could breathe. He blinked away the water in his eyes and gently raised himself up to his feet, “Good…koff…work, Umali…someone…check comms…”

Kya fell to the ground in a heap, her skin blemished and cut up by the wires, her mouth bleeding from trying to bite her way free. “Keep the damn thing in.” She stood and looked to the machine. “You were a cruel god, raised by war, and yet now you suffer the final blow of any would be tyrant. Living with the humiliation of being a damn failure.”

Five IMMEDIATELY grabbed for his combadge to alert to Eventide. "On it!"

Khanwi did not know what that meant. He just let out a loud yell, a victorious war cry to celebrate their ability to get out of here. "Call the Eventide, I want to leave this planet," he said, leaving Maya to gather up the box while he gathered up the Trill dude, breaking off the wire going through him so he wouldn't remove it.

Maya promptly nodded and slammed her fist against her commbadge. "CCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!" *she shouted, loudly. Very Kirklike.

Kya fell to the ground. “I’m glad I didn’t kill you, you get to suffer knowing your failure.” She said coughing up blood from her bleeding gums.

Four looked down to Evoras as they carried her. Silently attempting to approach the nearest medical officer. They heard the commanders reply and tilted their head. "We have found that we are not all too helpful outside of our existing function. We apologize for any uncomfortability regarding our social acumen. We currently are working on improving our algorithms for better responses. We would be very appreciative for any further feedback as it servers to increase efficiency and effectiveness of communications with all those around us. We were unaware of your previous injury record. This shall be noted, Commander. Is there anything else we may be able to do to accommodate you?" Four heard everyone calling on comms and attempted to do the same. "This is Four of Ten. We are holding one injured Commander by the name of Evoras. She requires surgery after she lost her hand. Eventide do you copy?"

Evoras had two people on her. H'isll and Five were with Verza. Ekhesai dashed over to Saren, untangling the wires from around him. "'sokay, you're okay," she mumbled out loud. Everything was too loud. There was blood on the ground. Her ears were ringing. At the same time, she couldn't hear over the sound of her own heartbeat. They— did it? It was over? (edited)

Vara'l rushed over to Four and the Commander. Once close enough to the stump he grabbed for whatever he had on him. He then ripped for enough fabric for a rough and ready attempt at first aid to slow the bleed. Then, he started on the attempt, a transport was forthcoming but first aid needed to start now he reckoned. "Hello Commander, we'll soon have you safe and sound on a med bed."

"Is everyone okay?" She asks as she looks at everyone.

If he were to be totally honest, it’s times like these that made Maxson wonder what a desk job would be like. He grimaced at the sight of his own blood, lip curling. Just another day in Starfleet…

She slowly got to her feet with a breath, she kneeled and offered a quiet prayer to the prophets. “Please, offer all those who died here under that machine peace in death.”

Maya, very violently, pulled the box out of the box and raised it over her head. "Got it! things in the box now! let's go home! Is everyone alright?"

Holding Verza up, he was probably going to be beamed up as one of the first, and he was already surrounded by wounded and hurt people, so like, he wouldn't cackle about it, but he wanted to laugh. In trying to hold it in, his face turned into a contained grimace, unpleasant to look at but clear in the feeling it represented; glee.

She blinked that Four. "I did not say you were unhelpful. I said what you said was unhelpful." Oh... She was angry at herself. How illogical. She was most definitely emotionally compromised... and otherwise compromised as well. "I'm certain you will." There was a strange noise coming from her. She should logically most definitely not be laughing right now.

As he sat there on the ground, looking at the carnage in front of him. Everything flashed before him once again, he was going to need so much therapy after that.
